The book is translated by Jerzy Kim, but the most interesting thing is that he drew extraordinary illustrations for it: handmade, with humor. There are so many funny details in them that you can look at the pictures for hours, and your lips themselves stretch into a smile. No matter how old you are, you will return to your childhood. True, the book has one drawback. The kids will pester you to read it for the hundredth time.

I was really looking forward to the release of this book, and now I was able to buy it for the New Year! It turns out that J. Harris has so many instructive stories about animals. We only knew about Br’er Rabbit and Br’er Fox (on Russian language), but here we also knew about Br’er Tiger, and about Terrapin, and about Hawk, and about Weasel, and about many others. Thanks to Jerzy Kim for making a literary translation of the new stories!!! And there are amazing illustrations! They were also drawn by Jerzy Kim!

An equally subtle and delicate task is solved by Yury (Jerzy) Kim in his retellings of Joel Harris’ Uncle Remus’ Tales…, as can be seen, in particular, in the example of the fairy tale «How the Bear Nursed the Little Alligators»: Harris’s originals were written on an African American vernacular, no one Russian translations of which ones will not be available to a wide audience, so the outstanding (Russian Soviet) translator Mikhail Gershenzon chose a retelling based on the skaz tradition for their Russian transmission — and today Kim continues his work, translating the remaining tales of Harris in such a way that they organically stand next to the one published in 1936 and included in the Russian cultural canon by Gershenzon’s retelling.

My name is Yury (Jerzy) Kim. I am a translator and a copyright holder of the «Brer Tiger and Brer Rabbit» book.
It is my own site to present my book as the product of my work for translating English-language literature for children into Russian. My work has been going on for several years and this book is a sizeable result with some important Russian and Ukranian literary prizes.
The book was published by the Akvilegia-M publishing house in November 2023 with my illustrations and is sold only in paper version.
